From observations at the Toy Fair, there is a clear distinction between girl’s and boy’s toys, especially for the age range of 6-10 years. It seems from a young age that girls have the ideals of being a homemaker drummed into them with all the toys being available surrounding cooking, cleaning and babies.
Obviously these toy companies supply for a demand, however with our more feminist culture you would have thought there would be a more modern mindset, encouraging alternative, more ‘aspirational’ scenarios. With these kinds of toys it seems like children are encouraged to be grown-ups before they are ready. This is especially reiterated with products such as this:
