From our observations, we have come to the conclusion that adults are quite comfortable living within their stereotypes. Their choices tend not to surprise as people become predictable as they grow older and this is not necessarily a bad thing. The divide is no longer just between genders but genres, such as ‘chav’, ‘goth’ etc depending on people’s tastes, where people believe they are individuals but are still put into a collective. These kinds of divides do not exist in a child’s world yet but their decisions are still heavily influenced and thrust upon them because of the stereotypes that exist. What would happen if they had completely free choice, without their parents or societies input? We think that because children still have the ability to surprise by the choices that they make with free will, this is a more interesting and broader area to study.
